DIY studio equipment?

I’m in no position to blow the bank for expensive equipment. I’m sure it can be made at home, though; light diffusers, beauty dishes, reflectors, softboxes, extension tubes, etc…
I just need the right instructions!
If you know about sites that could help, mention them.

Hi there – here’s the facts about expensive equipment vs cheap equipment. Expensive costs more and cheap is more affordable.

That’s it. If you really know what you are doing, all the expensive top quality equipment will give the same results as the cheap stuff. Only difference being, it may take a little longer to get what you want because you will have to think more and do things manually. But that’s what experimenting is for. Once you get to know your equipment, using it will become second nature.

You can get cheap models of lighting equipment from china through eBay. For reflectors, instead of paying $50 for a photographic reflector, it is cheaper to pay $3 for a silver windshield sunshade used for a car to keep the sun off the dashboard. What I use as reflectors is a large white plastic board from a stationary store. Find books in the library about lighting techniques and you will learn a lot from those books.
